DI welcomes the Commissions Environmental Simplification Omnibus as an important first step towards a more coherent and manageable EU environmental framework. DI supports the ambition from Member States and the Commission to strengthen competitiveness and resilience through high environmental standards, while emphasising that regulation must be implementable and proportionate. The result of this ambition is a strong focus on fast and precise permitting. DI fully supports the objectives of the regulation and recognises the importance of increasing reuse and circularity in packaging in general. However, the main focus should be directed towards areas where the transition to reuse makes sense from an environmental, technical, and economic perspective. DI welcomes the Commissions recognition of the significant technical and economic challenges associated with achieving 100% re-use for pallet wrappings and straps within the prescribed timeframe.
