Futerro is a European producer and recycler of PLA, a bio-based polymer. As an actor involved in both biopolymer production and recycling technologies, Futerro encourages the Commission to develop sustainability criteria that are science-based and technology-neutral. Futerro firmly believes that the credibility and effectiveness of the PPWR will greatly depend on the ability to demonstrate that requirements applicable to materials and packaging placed on the EU market follow the same standards, verification and enforcement, regardless of whether they are fulfilled within or outside the European Union. To ensure a genuine level playing field, the methodology should rely on robust, verifiable and auditable requirements to demonstrate that recycled content claimed outside the EU is subject to rules equivalent to those required of EU operators.
