The Environmental Omnibus represents a positive step towards reducing administrative burdens stemming from EU environmental legislation. Eurochambres welcomes that several core demands of the chamber network are reflected in the simplification package, including the deletion of the SCIP database and measures to streamline permitting procedures. However, the package remains limited in scope and leaves several key legislative files unaddressed, including the Packaging and Packaging Waste Regulation, the Ecodesign for Sustainable Products Regulation and the Nature Restoration Regulation. European businesses, particularly SMEs, are struggling with complex and burdensome requirements stemming from EU environmental legislation. Excessive documentation, reporting and authorisation obligations result in high compliance costs and legal uncertainty, undermining Europes competitiveness. Eurochambres therefore welcomes the European Commissions plan to propose a simplification package for EU environmental law. To support this effort, the chamber network has compiled a list of over 60 simplification proposals covering 13 pieces of EU environmental legislation. EUROCHAMBRES, the association of European Chambers of Commerce and Industry, fully supports the purpose of the GDPR and we consider the fact that Europe could agree on an common legislative framework in this new field of legislation a considerable success.
