While we support the objective of making EU legislation more effective, Surfrider Foundation Europe (SFE) strongly regrets the significant risks raised by this consultation and the clear deviation it introduces from that objective. Legislation cannot be considered more effective if it undermines the very goals it is meant to achieve. Cuts to regulations that protect the ocean, seas, coasts, and the health of citizens, or enhance civil society and communities ability to have their voice heard on marine and coastal issues, ultimately impose far higher costs than those regulations themselves can entail.
