The EU pesticide laws, Regulation 1107/2009 and Directive 2009/128/EC, are vital for protecting human health, biodiversity, and food systems. Scientific evidence shows that pesticides cause chronic diseases, endanger children, and severely damage ecosystems and biodiversity. The main challenge lies not in the legislation itself, but in weak implementation, enforcement failures, and industry non-compliance. PAN Europe therefore calls on the EU to strengthen enforcement rather than weaken protections, ensuring human health and environmental protection, sustainable agriculture and long-term food security.
